Practice Opportunities

The KLHCI is proud to offer a variety of Family Practice Models to new graduates and seasoned family doctors who wish to practise in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The City of Kawartha Lakes is a designated Area of High Doctor Need by the MOHLTC. Our community is home to a Family Health Organization (FHO) supported by a Family Health Team, a Community Health Centre (CHC), and a Community-Lead Family Health Team (FHT). We are currently recruiting for family physicians for a variety of practice opportunities. Please contact us.

Our Communities

Bobcaygeon

Situated on three islands between Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes, Bobcaygeon is the “Hub of the Kawarthas”. The first lock on the Trent Severn Waterway (Lock 32) was built in Bobcaygeon to accommodate the logging industry of the time. The population of approximately 4,000 swells to many more during the summer months due to the many cottages and campgrounds in the area. Bobcaygeon is home to two medical clinics. One clinic is associated with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team and the other with the Kawartha North Family Health Team.

Fenelon Falls

Known as the “Jewel of the Kawarthas”, Fenelon Falls has a population of approximately 2500 permanent residents. The population swells in the summer months due to the many cottages and campgrounds in the area. Fenelon Falls is home to Lock 34 on the Trent Severn Waterway. Other unique features are the beautiful waterfall and gorge between Cameron and Sturgeon Lakes. Access to the Victoria County Rail Trail is easily available. Fenelon Falls is home to two medical clinics. One clinic is associated with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team and the other with the Kawartha North Family Health Team.

Kinmount

On the northeast border of the City of Kawartha Lakes, the village of Kinmount is situated on the picturesque Burnt River, surrounded by majestic forests and pristine lakes. The village is home to approximately 500 people, but the Kinmount and District Health Centre serves thousands of residents residing in Haliburton and Peterborough Counties, in addition to the northern part of the City of Kawartha Lakes. The area is one of the most accessible regions in Ontario’s renowned cottage country, designated by the Ministry of Health as underserviced, yet only a one hour drive to Orillia or Peterborough and a two hour drive to Toronto.

Lindsay

Lindsay is the largest urban centre in the City of Kawartha Lakes. It is home to the Ross Memorial Hospital and many family medicine clinics associated with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team and the Community Care of Kawartha Lakes Community Health Centre. The population of Lindsay is approximately 25,000. Lindsay is located on the Scugog River and the Victoria County Rail Trail is easily accessible.

Omemee

Located half-way between Lindsay and Peterborough, Omemee is located on the Pigeon River. Supporting a population of approximately 1,500 the village is home to the Omemee Medical Centre which is associated with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team. The Victoria County Rail Trail is easily accessible.

Woodville

On the western border of the City of Kawartha Lakes, the village of Woodville is surrounded by beautiful farmland and is home to approximately 1,000 people. There is one medical centre in Woodville associated with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Organization/Family Health Team.

 

Ross Memorial Hospital

The “Ross” is an accredited 176 bed community hospital that meets the needs of over 80,000 people. A blend of primary and secondary services is provided by a group of family doctors and specialists to address the complex needs of our community. Many family doctors provide primary services providing surgical assist, supporting the hospitalist program, or providing primary obstetrics services, all according to their professional interest.

A core of general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, ophthalmologists, and obstetricians support a broad range of surgical services. These surgical services are supported by a blend of FRCP and GP Anesthetists. A team of internists support a 24/7 ICU and consultation services including a full range of cardiology, GI diagnostic testing, respirology, and endocrinology. Both in-patient (Schedule 1 unit) and out-patient mental health services are provided. Emergency medicine is provided for over 46,000 visit per year on a 24/7 basis.

A state-of-the-art Diagnostic Imaging service is supported by on-site and off-site radiologists allowing the maintenance of 24/7 CT and MRI services.

Specific patient needs are also supported by having an inpatient rehabilitation service, a palliative care unit, outpatient dialysis unit, and chronic complex care capability. Outpatient services include chronic disease management clinics, a fracture clinic, and breast screening services.

 
 

CME Offerings

KLHCI coordinates the Grand Rounds schedule for members of the Kawartha Lakes Medical Society.  Events are held on Tuesday evenings and sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. 

KLHCI is also developing a more extensive, local CME program through funding received from the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Once available the schedule will be posted here.
