FUNDING RECEIVED FOR RECRUITMENT OF FAMILY DOCTORS
City of Kawartha Lakes, July 12, 2010: The Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (KLHCI) is pleased to announce that it will be receiving funding to support its Recruitment and Retention Coordinator’s attendance at recruitment activities such as medical conferences and recruitment fairs. These activities are extremely important in making initial contacts with family doctors who may consider relocation and to assisting with efforts to recruit family doctors to the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL).
The funding is through the Government of Canada’s Eastern Ontario Development Program, which is administered by the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (KLCFDC) with the support of the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, FedDev Ontario.
Mark Knoester, Board Chair of the KLCFDC, sees great benefits to the local economy when family doctors choose to practice in the CKL. “The local economy is known to grow as every doctor who comes into a community provides a spin-off economic benefit of between $500,000 and $1,000,000 per year. Additional family doctors will directly impact the service capacity of the Ross Memorial Hospital, and the fewer citizens who must travel outside the City of Kawartha Lakes to see a family doctor the better it is.”, stated Knoester.
“The KLHCI Board of Directors is very pleased to again receive funding through this Government of Canada program. We are grateful to the KLCFDC Board of Directors and look forward to the positive outcomes expected,” says Robyn McNabb, President.
KLHCI is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mandate is to recruit and retain family doctors for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
